This project aims to understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on postacute care by examining utilization patterns, racial and ethnic disparities in postacute care use, and spending and health outcomes among traditional Medicare beneficiaries, with a close look at high-need, high-cost beneficiaries. The project will determine the extent to which there was a shift in postacute care use from skilled nursing facilities to home health care and its impact on health outcomes and spending. Data will be drawn from 100% Medicare claims and enrollment data from 2016 to 2021.
