The program provides fellowships to educate journalists on issues of aging. The fellowships begin with a daylong preconference workshop and attendance at GSA's Annual Scientific Meeting, where over 4,000 professional attendees will offer reporters expertise throughout the field. Fifteen new Journalists in Aging Fellowships will be funded to attend the GSA conference, and nine journalists from previous fellowship cohorts will also attend. GSA and New America Media would also include a session of our choosing (potentially led by staff or grantees) at the pre-conference training. Three 2016 fellows and one returning fellow will be specifically funded by the Commonwealth Fund.
This grant will help support education of journalists (mostly ethnic minorities), allowing them to produce work on issues relevant to vulnerable and HNHC populations. It also supports the dissemination of information about new scientific findings, policy debates, innovations, and evidence-based solutions.
