This project will support the recruitment, selection, and tenure of up to 12 Harkness Fellows, one each from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, the Netherlands or Germany, and possibly Singapore, two from France, and up to four from the United Kingdom. Targeting promising midcareer professionals, the fellowship is a unique opportunity to spend a year conducting policy-relevant research in tandem with U.S. experts while developing key leadership skills. Fellows also participate in seminars that illuminate challenges and bright spots in the U.S. health care system. For 2023–24, the focus will be on priority areas identified in the recent Harkness Fellowship assessment: 1) increasing diversity; 2) enhancing policy focus; 3) expanding the program to Singapore; 4) formalizing the leadership development curriculum; and 5) enhancing the Harkness Senior Fellows Program.
