The researchers will used data reported to the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight via insurers’ filings, linked to data about market composition and insurer characteristics reported to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. The medical loss ratio (MLR) filings provide information, by insurer and market segment, about insurers’ changes in medical claims, quality improvement expenses, administrative overhead and sales costs, profit margins, and consumer rebates.
