Since July 2006, the Fund's Commission on a High Performance Health System has convened three times, issued a framework statement laying out the attributes of high performance, released a scorecard on national health system performance and one on state performance, and produced a series of papers on key health system issues. In the coming months, the Commission will release a report on federal options for achieving and reinvesting savings and a report on universal coverage and the presidential candidates' proposals, while also continuing to develop other products and policy recommendations. Its work will also be reflected in Fund-sponsored conferences, roundtables, and briefings. The Fund's grants to the Alliance for Health Reform and to AcademyHealth pay for basic staff support for important Commission activities, while the Alliance is responsible for the logistics for three annual meetings. The authorization for analytic support for the scorecard will allow the Commission's research director to develop the third U.S. health system scorecard to assess health outcomes, access, quality, efficiency, and innovation.
